Pearl of the Orient

Especially after the handover to China, Hong Kong has thrived and flourished in the past decades. Well, people don't call it the 'Pearl of the Orient' for nothing. A trip to Hong Kong in April this year since my first trip there 10 years ago has positively changed my perception of the Hong Kongers and their country tremendously.

Passing through Hong Kong's two famous bridges on the way from airport to the hotel

Checking into the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel

Didn't manage to get the harbour view room. We were given the garden view
room with a small glimpse of the Hong Kong skyline by the waters

Rather luxurious hotel but like most hotel rooms in Hong Kong,
this room has barely sufficient walking space

Beautiful skyline of Hong Kong

The skyline's even more beautiful at night

At the bottom of the famous HSBC building

Amused to see throngs of Filipino maids setting up picnic mats
and taking shelter under the HSBC building on a rainy Sunday

While LA has its 'Walk of Fame', Hong Kong is proud of its 'Avenue of Stars'.

Streets of Hong Kong, glitering with neon-lighted signboards

'Dai Pai Dong' or maybe known as street side food stalls, along Temple Street market

Shopping paradise in Central

A famous walk path in Central, featured in several movies

Cable car to Nong Ping to see the Giant Buddha

It was a very long cable car ride and scarily high above the waters and passing several mountains

Giant Buddha

Tram up to the famous Victoria Peak

Hong Kong is clustered with tall and thin buildings (view from Victoria Peak)

Beautiful lighted buildings after night fall. Hong Kong's
most prominent international banks can be seen clearly here.

Breath taking views from the Victoria Peak

Taste of dim sum at a local eatery where we were the only tourists around

Another dim sum restaraunt

Hong Kong serves the best congee and wan ton noodle!

Combos like this (wonton with stew beef noodles) are
probably not common in Singapore's Chinese eateries

Yummy roast goose at the famous Yung Kee restaurant in Central

President Obama was the new addition to the Wax Museum

Angelina & Brad looking almost alive

and them too!

Was lucky to catch a movie star....Daniel Wu

Probably shooting a commercial

Macau Tower in the background.

Wynn Hotel here looking similar to the one at Vegas

And other cheesy looking casinos.

McDonald's seen in Senado Square

Ruins of St Paul's looking quite magnificant

Streets of Macau

Shopping district near the Senado Square

Famous Pork Chop Buns in Macau

And of course the Portugese egg tarts! Margaret's serves one of the best.

A day trip to Zhuhai in China. Standing at Macau, we were just
about 50 steps away from China's border in Gong Bei.

Day trip to Shenzhen in China for shopping & cheap food.
This Beijing Duck cost half of what we pay in Singapore
